progging

progging
fishing for eels hidden in holes with a stocking needle fastened by the eye to the end of a willow wand, and to the middle of it is tied a long string. The free end is baited with a worm. This is then pushed into the hole. As soon as the eel has taken the bait, the fisherman pulls the string, reversing the needle and so capturing the eel (Northumberland dialect)
